Buying Prams & Pushchairs

Buying Prams & Pushchairs

We are well aware that one of the most difficult decisions that have to be made when you start shopping for your new baby - Which pram do I want?

Our first piece of advice is always - forget fashion, forget what the celebrities are pushing, the pram you choose must be right for you.

Sit down, before you even start looking at what might be on the market and write a physical list of what you want the pram to do.

Where will you take your pram?

To town, the beach, the woods, jogging or any combination of these? Will you be driving and then walking or will you be walking as a rule, most of the time.

Do you have car space for your buggy?

Have a look in the back of your car or cars, measure if you need to, but be realistic about how much space you have available in the back of the car. Take care to allow space for other bits and pieces such as the changing bag and shopping bags.

How much storage space at home for the pram?

How much space do you have indoors to store your chosen pram and where will you store it? You don't want to be constantly climbing over it because it is too big or won't fold small enough to slide away behind a door or in a cupboard. Your large off road pram may be perfect for the long walks and fit comfortably in your car but this is no good if you and the rest of the family are constantly tripping over the pushchair in the hallway!

With these detailed requirements to hand, your choices become more apparent, don't be seduced by brand names, stick to your list.

What Buggies & Prams?

The range of prams and buggies available today is amazing, from large wheeled three wheelers for jogging to bulky travel systems with all the storage and car seats you will need for your baby.

There is also a wide range of compact, small folding buggies ideal if space in car and home are an issue or if you just require a run around buggy that can be left in the car for a tired toddler. Lightweight pushchairs are also an excellent, convenient option if your children spend a lot of time at their grandparent's house or a child minder's, as they can be easily stored and stop you having to constantly transport your pram between locations.

There are also a wide range of twin and double buggies available that enable your children to sit in tandem or inline. These prams are ideal not only if you have twins but also if you have a toddler and a new baby.

To make your decision - ask questions, that may mean asking somebody in the street who is pushing the very pram you thought might suit you. Read reviews, but always read more than one for the same pram to get a more balanced over view. The pram that will suit your needs is there; you just need to match your requirements to the right one!

From our experience, once you have chosen and ordered your pram or buggy the pressure is off and the rest of your baby shopping becomes much easier and pleasurable.
