Wooden Cots
Cots are generally made of wood in a traditional style, some may have a solid end, ideal if you are planning to sleep baby 'feet to foot' as recommended by health visitors and midwives, others will have bars on all sides this gives good visibility and air flow.
Choices in colour and wood finishes are extensive and many cots have co-ordinating nursery furniture.
Convertible Cotbeds
If you want to extend the useful life of the cot normally 2 to 2 1/2 years it is worth looking at the Sauthon or Boori ranges as they do a number of convertible cots. These convert from a cot to a full size single bed - a single mattress will be required. Making use of parts saves on storage and means any furniture still co-ordinates perfectly.
A cot is a safe and secure place for baby to spend time, learning independence and playing on early mornings - it should never be a place of punishment baby as your child to know it is their special safe place and this can cause significant problems at bed time.
