The solid end style is perfect for sleeping baby in the ‘feet to foot’ position now recommended by many midwives and health visitors, this helps to prevent baby from being able to slip under the bedding and possibly overheating.
The mattress base is used in the highest position for the young baby with the lower positions becoming necessary as the child starts to move around and stand. The drop side will make reaching in to change bedding or to lift a sleeping child easier on the adults back. To the top rail of the sides has been fitted a protective teething rail, this prevents the wood from becoming damaged.
Once the toddler has discovered that escape is possible, it is then time to change the Stratford into the junior bed, this is simple to do, the cot is dismantled with the allen key provided the lower section of the foot end is removed the mattress base is placed in the lowest position and the screws are tightened again. The mattress remains in use as does the familiar bedding, helping the child adapt to the new sleeping environment. It is at this time that you may need to invest in a safety gate for the bedroom door.
