Energy Absorbing And Adjustable Car Seat
All Recaro child seats are tested in accordance with the most stringent requirements of the automotive industry and have been designed so that you will never doubt the safety or comfort of your child while traveling in the car.
Adjustability
This seat will accommodate your child from 15kgs, around 4 years through to the age of 12 years; it will adapt and change in all directions.
The seat has 8 positions in depth, always ensuring that the child’s legs can reach over the edge in a comfortable position.
The side pads that are designed to protect the body from side impact can be adjusted outwards as the child needs more shoulder space.
The headrest can be raised as the child grows, as this happens it automatically adjusts the angle of the adult seat belt as it passes across the child’s chest, making sure that the belt is in the best, safest and most comfortable position.
Comfort
It is important for the child to be comfortable otherwise they are not happy to sit in their seat, although it is now law for children under 135cm or 12 years to be sat in or on a car safety seat.
The Start has a unique rubber Pirelli mat under the fabric, this is suspended across the seat so the child has no solid base under their bottom, this is important when they are out of nappies as the bottom can become numb on long journeys on a solid seat, often causing them to become upset.
When the seat belt is brought across the child it passes through an easy to use red guide, this guide automatically changes position when the headrest is raised.
Built into the headrest of the seat is a pair of speakers – (is this for child comfort or parents?) It is possible to plug the child’s own personal sound system or the in car entertainment system into these speakers, keeping the child's head safely within the headrest.
The seat also has a recline feature for children under 25kgs around 6 years; this puts the body in a comfortable sleeping position.
Easy Fitting
The Start is one of the few truly universal fitting car seats; it will fit small bucket sports car seats, also cars with forward anchorage points. The seat is not fitted to the car but placed onto the seat and then the toddler or child sits on the seat and the car’s adult seat belt is fitted over the child in the same way as it is on an adult. The belt is then passed through the easy to use red guide; this will keep the belt in the optimum position on the child’s body for their safety.
Safety
The seat is built using an aluminium frame; it has been designed to bend on impact - absorbing the energy of any accident. The seat is shaped to stop the child slipping under the belt as the submarining action takes place during impact. The head and shoulder pads all help to keep the child safely in place during a side impact protecting the head from excessive movement that could cause neck injuries.
The seat belt passes through the red guide - this is used in a locked-off position until the child reaches 18kgs. Beyond this weight the belt becomes free running in the same way as an adult belt.
This seat or any other seat should not be used with an active passenger air bag.
Fabrics
Recaro offer 3 fabric options at slightly different prices
1) Micro fibre fabric - this has a velvet-like feel and is very hard wearing; it is removable and machine washable 30 degrees.
2) The second choice is Bellini fabric this is a suede effect you will find it soft to the touch.
3) New for 09 Airmesh a cool and breathable fabric ideal for those hot summers.
