Protectavest
The Thomson Protectavest Seat Belt Jacket.
Hugh Thomson has eight grandchildren, and his invention was born from his concern whilst driving his grandchildren to and from nursery and school.
He noticed that the young one’s travelling in the back seat of his car were constantly removing the diagonal seat belt in order to stretch for toys or look out of the window. He researched car accident data and was horrified at the accident statistics involving young children and the misuse of the standard seat belt. His rising concern about their safety, and the fact that he was being distracted by constantly watching and correcting their unsafe antics, prompted him to find a solution to the problem. After much experimentation, the final version of the Thomson Protectavest evolved. As Hugh says “ I was only satisfied with my invention when I was convinced that it would safeguard my grandchildren. “
