100% cotton nappy
Easy to use, hardwearing, good value and environmentally friendly! Traditional white terry towelling squares made from 100% cotton, to be folded into a nappy shape to fit baby from birth.
These popular nappies are absorbent enough for baby from newborn and a toddler for daytime use. The Supreme (a thicker version of the nappy) may be required for a toddler at night.
The terry squares can be washed up to 100 degrees if you wish. They can be tumble dried at the highest setting, and ironed if necessary (this may be required if travelling abroad due to microbes in the air).
A liner is recommended to collect solid waste and to protect the cloth. The liners can generally be flushed down the toilet, and the cloth nappy would then either be soaked or washed in the machine with a nappy sanitiser.
Traditionally the nappy would be secured in place with a nappy pin. These are large safety pins with a safety catch to protect baby from the pin undoing. The modern version of this is the Nappi Nippas. (Available from Olivers Babycare in packs of three.) This is an elasticated device with three small claws that grab on to the fabric, a simple but effective device, and safer than a pin.
A waterproof layer will be needed to cover the entire nappy to protect clothing and bedding. These are no longer made from harsh plastics, they have gentle fabric around legs and tummies. It is possible to choose from any make of wrap to coordinate with the terry nappy, but you will need a medium size, as the terry nappy is bulkier than the shaped cloth nappies. If you are using the supreme nappies for night time you will need large sized wraps.
