Nappy Accessories

There are a large number of creams and wipes for use at nappy time, we have selected a natural range using plant extracts that have been used for generations to prevent or cure nappy rash, some babies are more susceptible to this problem than others and many get nappy rash while teething - it is not necessarily anything to do with your choice of nappies although babies that are changed more regularly do generally suffer less.

Baby Wipes

Baby wipes are an easy way to clean baby's bottom as well as sticky fingers. It is worth looking at the ingredient list as some are much kinder on young skin than others the Jackson wipes are herbal and don't contain any alcohol. There are others that are flushable which are ideal if you are using washable nappies as you then have nothing to put into plastic bags; making this a more sound environmental choice.

Disposal Systems

If you are using disposable nappies, Tommy Tippee do make a disposal diaper unit that neatly seals and wraps the soiled nappies into a continuous tube of plastic - eliminating any smell. This unit can also be used for the disposal of other personal sanitary items.

Nappy Pins & Nippers

Traditional nappy pins are still available for use with terry towelling nappies or muslin squares, but there is a safe and easy to use alternative in the Nappy Nipper, this is an elasticated claw system that you simply stretch and when allowed to retract, grips onto the fabric, holding the nappy in place.

Nappy Buckets

Nappy buckets come in a range of colours and sizes, all will have a lid for safety, these allow you to collect the nappies and to sanitize them prior to washing or rinsing. The bucket ideally needs to be large enough to hold 24hrs worth of soiled nappies this will be 6 to 8 for one child - so dependant on your choice of nappy and how bulky they are should help you decide which size bucket you will need.

If nappies have been in a soak solution for at least two hours it is not necessary for them to be put through a full wash cycle with detergent, they could be simply rinsed and dried.

Diaper Wraps

Wraps have changed a great deal since the days of plastic pants; modern wraps are breathable and soft to touch. They vary in the way they are secured. Three of each size should be adequate, but it is not necessary to purchase them all at once. As a baby's shape changes you may find that a different brand may suit better.

Fleece or pure wool wraps are available, these are usually used during the night, if you have a very wet baby but one who sleeps through the night the fleece or pure wool wrap allows moisture to dissipate into the atmosphere keeping baby dry. If you have chosen the fleece version you will need to wash this each day - but the pure wool wraps will self cleanse so they rarely need to be laundered - unless a major 'accident' has happened ! These are just aired each day.

Flushable Nappy Liners

Most liners are designed to be flushed but it is worth reading the pack, some are in tear off rolls others are pre folded and are in a tissue box style dispenser - which are quick and easy to use.

Mesh Bags

Mesh bags are available to make life easier with washable nappies. The nappy bucket is filled with the soak solution then lined with the mesh bag which is available in two sizes to fit your bucket choice. After each nappy change simply drop the nappy to be sanitised into the mesh bag. When transferring the nappies to the washing machine they remain in the bag - then when they are rinsed, the bag can be taken to the washing line or simply placed in the tumble drier. A must have item.
