We are all far more aware of overheating with sleeping babies than ever before, one of the easiest ways to help control temperature is to place your baby in a sleeping bag.
The sleeping bag should be of the correct tog rating for the time of year and nursery temperature. A sleeping bag will not be kicked off during the night, causing baby to wake from the cold, the sleeping bag is designed to be used with a combination of layers of clothing to get exactly the right levels of comfort. Once baby has become accustomed to the sleeping bag you will find that they settle quickly to sleep, as their movement is restricted, their temperature stays more constant and they feel secure.

Sleeping bags are available with cut outs for a harness to pass through; this can be particularly useful if your baby needs to travel in a car seat during the evening or while on holiday having to sleep in a pram or buggy.

- 0.5 tog for high summer this is a single cotton layer
- 1.0 tog for spring and autumn terry towelling lined cotton
- 2.5 tog for winter quilted double layer cotton or valour.
