Dummies, Soothers & Teething Rings
Soothers are not often part of a planned shopping list for baby, but tend to become an essential item when your baby will not settle during the night. They are available in either clear coloured silicon, or rubber - these are generally brown in colour. If your baby is taking a bottle the dummy will need to be of the same type as the teat for the bottle. For a breast fed baby, try the silicon first, but you may well have to test both.
A new soother to the market is a model with a snap close cover, this cover protects the dummy if it is dropped - and it does seem impossible for it to hit a surface without the cover closing.
To encourage your baby to use a dummy place it gently in the mouth, then gently pull it away, this will encourage baby to suck and so hold the soother in place.
Wide Range of Teethers
Teethers come in a range of shapes and sizes, it is worth checking that the teether will fit in the place that baby has the pain.
Natural wooden teethers are a favourite with mums as are water filled teethers; these are put into the fridge prior to use, giving cool relief to sore gums.
Bickiepegs Pegs are still available today - these are a very hard biscuit on a little ribbon designed to loop around baby's wrist to prevent them dropping the biscuit - the same company has produced these for over 50 years!
