Child Toys
The toys needed to extend an older child's learning will undoubtedly, be toys that allow them to imitate you and the things that you do. Try to provide the space to act this out and the necessary tools needed - dressing up clothes, plastic plates and cutlery, a place to cook and wash-up, or could it be a garage that is needed with spanners, trucks and toy cars that need to be repaired.
Pretending to be animals or characters from a favourite story may be the way that your older child spends many valuable hours of play, and it is valuable.
Development Toys
Creativity will continue to be finely tuned in the pre-school years, play dough, and plastic building blocks will help to expand on the skills of hand-eye co-ordination. Cut out puzzles are great for stimulating the thought processes, starting with just a few large pieces and graduating to more and smaller pieces.
Balance skills will also improve from stable four wheeled ride-ons, bicycles and scooters will soon be on the shopping list.
