Car Seats

Child in car safety must always be a priority for any parent, when looking at costs it is important not to make savings in this section. There are a number of ways of making drastic savings when raising a baby - by breast feeding or using washable nappies (washable nappies can save you around £1,000.00, this will buy just about everything you need for your newborn!) but do not cut corners when it comes to in-car safety.

UK Standard Car Seats

An absolute must is to buy each car seat new, checking that it meets the latest E.U. standard and that it is approved for use in the U.K. The standards are very different around the world and a seat that meets the standard on one Continent could be illegal in another.

A Child's safety is the driver's responsibility, and it is important to ensure the seat being used is suitable for the child that is being carried in it. A suitable seat will be required until the child is 135cms tall or 12 years of age, there are almost no exceptions to this law, - unless you can prove that the reason for travel is an emergency. Non-compliance could result in a fine.

When working through the car seat section it will be essential to know the weight of the baby or child that is to be carried, as car seats are all weight dependants, some cover more than one group - which is especially useful for grandparents as they may have more than one grandchild to cater for.

Baby Carriers

Baby carriers can be used from birth (around 7lbs) right through to 3 to 4 years of age. The way baby is carried will change from either your front or side to your back as they grow and get heavier.

When going out and about on a family outing your baby will love being up high, seeing the world around them from the same aspect as you, joining in conversations and pointing out interesting things, without the restraints of where your buggy will go or the worry of where your toddler may have wondered to - you will be amazed how far you will travel with your carrier.
