Maclaren - Child Car Seats

The founder of the company, Owen Maclaren began his remarkable career in 1940 designing and engineering ground breaking products for the aeronautical industry. Even at the point of retirement Maclaren's inventive brain was still working hard, the birth of his grandchild in 1965 inspired the beginnings of the first umbrella fold buggy destined to set parents free of the large cumbersome prams of the time. Maclaren's ground-breaking design was made of aluminium, weighed just 6lb. and folded like an umbrella; the first of many had arrived.

Leading Baby Company

Always at the forefront of innovative design, 1976 saw the company produce a foldable pram buggy - a foldable pram, carrycot and buggy combined as one unit and fitted with the new 'balloon' foam tyre, again another maclaren first.

Annual output of buggies was now nearly 600,000 units, consuming nearly 4,000 miles of aluminium tubing and an incredible 1.5 million yards of fabric.

Innovative Pram Designs

Despite the loss of the founder in 1978, Maclaren continue their innovative work with the introduction of the first buggy with front swivel wheels and as ever, with safety in mind, the introduction of linked parking brakes.

1991 saw the introduction of the first twin buggy, capable of taking two new born babies and still able to fit through a standard doorway.

The new millennium saw Maclaren supplying the needs of parents throughout the world, exporting to 60 countries worldwide.

After more than 40 years since the world saw the first Maclaren buggy, the company are still producing a comprehensive range of parent and child friendly products that their founder Owen Maclaren would be proud of.
