Changing Mats

The changing mat is one of the baby essentials you will not want to do without. It is a good idea to decide where you are going to do nappy changes; you can then choose the right sized changing mat.

Cot Top Changer

Cot top changers sit above the bottom of the cot spanning between the two side rails making great use of the space and provide a surface at exactly the right height. Some have space to put a few accessories others are simply a padded changing mat with built up sides. Whichever cot top changer you choose you it is important to consider where close to hand you can safely store nappies, creams, wipes etc. as your baby must never be left unattended while you get any item you may have forgotten.

Changing Station

This is a great idea if you have the space to accommodate it. Many have an integral bath set below the changing mat and offer plenty of storage space underneath either on shelves or in drawers, for all the nappies, vests, creams, wipes, liners and any other changing accessories you require.

Standard Changing Mat

A standard changing mat is a foam mat sealed in wipe clean plastic, this can be placed onto the top of a chest of drawers, on the bed or floor although it is better for your back if you can find a place that allows you to stand in front or beside baby.

A disadvantage of changing baby on the bed is that if they were to have an accident it will quickly run down on to your quilt making even more washing. If the bed is your best option there are ranges of changing mats with cotton covers that will help absorb any accidents.

If you are worried about your child wriggling or have a toddler who insists on escaping - the Rabbitts changing mat has a built in harness to keep your baby safe and secure during nappy changing.
